What Do You Like to Read?
I’ve been in a reading slump lately. This has happened periodically throughout my life and is usually broken by a long browse in a good bookstore. For various reasons, I haven’t had a chance to stop by our wonderful local bookstore in town for more than a minute or two to pick up something specific (like this book about Beatrix Farrand!) But I’ll admit to not knowing what to read next.
I’m a fairly broad reader. I love mysteries and literary fiction, books about families, books about houses. I read a fair amount of academic research still (a holdover from my days working at a research institution in Washington with a Beatrix Farrand-designed garden), and historical non-fiction. But when I’m in a reading slump, having varied tastes becomes a hindrance because I just can’t decide what to read next! I’d love to hear what you’re reading, and what you like to read. Please share!
I highly recommend The Elephant Whisperer by Anthony Lawrence.
I finished it recently and it was one of those books that I missed as soon as I was done, but while reading could not put down!
Thank you so much–can’t wait to pick this up! I’ll check in at our local bookstore to see if they have it in stock 🙂
I just finished reading ‘The Golden State and loved it! The Matchmaker, by Elin Hilderbrand and The Ballerinas, by Rachel Kapelke-Dale were wonderful reads as well!!

Thank you for the recommendations, Lauren! I do enjoy Elin Hilderbrand, but haven’t read The Ballerinas or The Golden State. Adding to my list, and can’t wait to check out your blog!
Whenever I’m in a reading dry spell, I like to find a new series to really sink into. I’ve just picked up the Verlaque and Bonnett Provençal mystery series by M.L. Longworth and it’s been a delightful romp so far. Lots of lovely details about food, architecture, art, clothing, history, culture, and with a mystery too!
Ooh, I love that! I’m all about richly-drawn worlds, and I love mysteries, so I can’t wait to check these out! Thank you so much!
