Wardrobe Staples: Mikimoto Akoya Pearl Studs
This is the second post in a new series about my wardrobe staples (you can find my by-season wardrobe staples under the “Wardrobe” tab in the menu!) There is nothing more timeless than a simple pearl stud earring. I truly believe that for an everyday piece like this, you want the best you can afford–that way you don’t have to worry about it falling apart on its own, or getting inadvertently damaged. Purchasing from fine jewelers, like Mikimoto, will often provide complimentary servicing of your jewelry to keep it in top shape.
My pearl earrings were inherited from my mother and they are the Mikimoto Akoya pearl studs (here at Nordstrom* and here at Saks*.) I wear these daily and for every activity–tennis, sailing, swimming, school drop-off, lunch at the club, cocktail parties, black tie events, church, etc. There is no activity (except possibly marathon-running!) for which they are inappropriate. These earrings instantly help me to feel put-together and, in fact, I feel off-kilter if I inadvertently forget them! In my post-college, D.C.-living days, I once forgot to put them on and ran all the way back to my house to grab them, missing my bus to work!
I love this particular pair mostly because they belonged to my mother, but besides that, they are a truly stunning and simple piece of jewelry that has taken me through all the activities listed above with little to no visible wear. They are the perfect size, are elegant, and I’ll wear them the rest of my life. I can rest assured knowing that Mikimoto is able to repair any damage to my jewelry. They are expensive, but as I wear them literally every day, the cost per wear is a fraction of a fraction of a penny at this point. They are earrings that will never go out of style, no matter your age or stage of life. You’ll never regret a classic!
Why does the brand matter? They’re pearls.
Hi Jen, thanks for your comment! I mentioned the brand because I’m specifically reviewing this pair of earrings. Mikimoto has a really fascinating history bound up in pearls; when I was researching this post I learned that they are the brand that discovered the way to culture pearls! Have a great day!
