Outfit Post: Tulips, Tweed, and Tea
Yes, I realize the title is awful, but coming up with “fun” outfit post titles is apparently not my forte! Anyway–
There is something so nice about afternoon tea. It’s a ritual I loved in Ireland–it was a welcome break after a day of excavating an Early Medieval ringfort! I do wish that tea was a more established part of American culture, but because it’s not, it’s always special to receive an invitation, especially at arguably the loveliest club in Manhattan.
Friday’s weather was one of those confusing New York days–at 60 degrees, will it be hot or cold? It was a bit brisk, though it warmed up in the afternoon, and for once (!!!) I managed to hit the perfect outfit for the fickle spring weather. I wore some of my favorite pieces (every one is on my spring wardrobe staples list!), which was even nicer. Some of my outfit–my Varas, tweed jacket, pearls, and trench coat–are longtime residents of my wardrobe, but these trousers from Brooks Brothers were a new and welcome find! My last pair of slim navy trousers have seen many better days, and were due for a replacement. This pair exceeded my expectations and will be much more serviceable in years to come. They are technically “cropped,” but I am 5’4″ and found they hit my ankle perfectly. I liked these trousers because the cut is classic but not “classic with a twist,” and they are a great easy piece to wear with just about anything.
I took these photos with my friend Ashley just before running to the subway to catch my train home–I couldn’t resist the beautiful tulips! As you may know, I am the director of a historical/genealogical society concerned with the history of New Netherland, and tulips are always flowers that makes me smile! The Fund for Park Avenue did a lovely job, as always. It is always such a special time of year in the city, and I’m glad I was able to enjoy such an idyllic afternoon with good friends!

The info about the navy trousers is so helpful! I need a new pair myself. I just ordered a sweater from BB with fingers crossed re quality, so it’s good to know your item exceeded expectations.
I highly recommend them! Fingers crossed on your new sweater–please keep me posted 🙂
